Preliminary Task - research - Key Technical Terms and Ideas

 MATCH ON ACTION

Perfume
the opening scene in the movie perfume, this movie mostly has match on action shots throughout the movie, at the very beginning of the movie their was a woman standing on a chair or a stall, as she falls down the camera does a quick change so then you could see the lady on the ground, this is called a match on action shot. A match on action is a great technique that every film use in nearly every motion, it is basically an simple cut that joins with two different views of the same action at the same moment in the movement. for example the boy in the movie he opens the door from the outside then immediately the camera changes to the other side of the door at the moment in the movement. Also when various characters are walking the is behind them at first then the camera cuts rapidly and then goes in front of them at the moment in the movement.

EYE LINE MATCH
Eye line match is simply when a character is looking at another character or an object which then the camera switches quickly to show that the 1st character is looking at that other character or object, for example when the man looks down at the baby, then suddenly the camera switches, this is called an eye line match match shot. So its just when the character will begin looking at anything which is off-screen bascially the veiwers cannot see what the character is looking at but then they would want see what the character is looking at, which then the camera does a close up shot most of the times, on the thing that the character was looking at. So for example if a lady is looking off screen to her right then the film would cut to a man she is looking at, eyeline match has alot of contuinity editing involved.

REVERSE SHOT
Shot reverse shot is a film technique where one character is shown looking at another character and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character. So two the characters are shown on the camera facing in opposite directions, then the audience assumes that they are facing each other and watching each other.

180 DEGREE RULE
This is a rule that when the camera should only be in a 180 degrees angle, for example there could be an invisible line which the camera could be on a particular side, in the invisible line there should be a shot with two characters. The camera should stay on one side of the characters, for example if two characters are having an conversasion the camera should stay on one side of the invisble line so if character one is on the left side and character two is on the right side then the camera has to stay on one side at all times in the scene because if the camera changes sides it will look like the characters changed sides randomly which will confuse the audience. This is basically breaking the 180 degree rule but it is `for effect` it will make the viewers confused especially in scenes of conversation or maybe a car chase in an action movie but it should be not used in any scenes.

SINGLE CAMERA FILMING

Single camera filming is basically when they use one camera on production, so each of the various shots and camera techniques is recorded by one camera which will have to cut and move to other angles to get different camera shots. A single camera filming technique gives the director more control over each different camera views and shots.
