what have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
what have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
When producing our film opening sequence we had to use various
technologies such as abode premiere pro, which was used to edit our opening
sequence. In addition I have learnt a lot when we edited our film; there were
some editing strategies on that software that I was not aware of before now I
have learnt new things on there, now I have a better understanding on using the
software. I learned various editing techniques like, cutting and
trimming.
Also when filming
our movie we had to use a tripod so when recording the picture can stay still
rather than filming hand held because in that way the video would be shaky and
would not look good. But on some occasion we decided to hold the camera, for
example when the chase scene was recorded we never used the tripod because by
holding the camera would create an effect when the person is running the camera
would shake so then it would create tension and suspense. The tripod was for
the camera to stand on it so that it’s balanced and the shot can be still which
I learned how to use it.
When we were producing our film most of the lighting was just the
daylight from outside because most of our opening was filmed outside, and
at the start of our opening sequence we filmed in the school theatre which
we had to use lights, we used a bright light over the side of the character so
that it can create an effect, the effect is that one side of the character is
dark, so that you cannot see the character clearly which generates some mystery
to the character. I have learned how to use the lights in the theatre whereas I
never knew how to control the theatre lights.

how did you attract/address your audience?
The gender of our target audience was males’ teenagers over the age of 15 as the movie is rated15. It is very important for us that we are able to attract and address the audience for our film, so that our movie does not fail. There were a lot of ways to attract our audience, one way we used our props for attraction such as the guns on the table, which will attract the teenagers because they will know then the movie is action, which is most male teenagers favourite genre, also they will know that the movie is going to be dark and dangerous which is what they like. Also the Rolex watch was a form of attraction because the audience will think, guns and Rolex means criminal, which are target audience would like this kind of characters because they are into violence and money.
Also they would know that the movie is a big budget movie because of the expensive props, which will make them think that the movie would be good because the movie costs lots, and when people sees movies as low budget then sometimes people would be put off. The soundtrack that is used is fast paced and powerful, which will attract the audience because it will create tension and suspense when they watch the opening sequence, the music sounds like something dangerous will happen which the our target audience would like. The locations in our film would attract the audience because the locations are rough and gritty areas which the audience would like to hang out or likes the sight of the areas. Also the graveyard location can attract the audience because it makes the film look more scary and dangerous because graveyards are dead people are buried, which shows that the movie is dark and dangerous, which can attract the audience.
The story of the film attracted the audience because of the characters, for example the main mob boss, has a personality which people wont like, so then the audience will get interested and think who is he? , what does he do? Also he is a threatening character which male teenagers like because they also want to be like that with power and money, and people scared of you. The audience will know that the character is rich because of the expensive watch he has and also the smart clothes he wears.
Our film has similarities to other films such as Unknown, the Bourne ultimatum because they both are a action/thriller, our film contains guns and blood, same as the other movies, which people who like the Bourne series and Unknown will be interested in ours. Also our movie contains bad guys just like both of the other films which then we would have the same audience as, the Bourne series and Unknown, by showing the guns and bad guys it will attract the Bourne fans, which then they would want to watch our film because it is similar to the Bourne movies.
Our unique selling point is that we added love into our story of our film so that it can expand our target market, so we can have more increased number of females watching our film. Females are delicate and gentle, which they are mostly into love then action violence, so by including love into our film we might be able to have some female viewers which mean bigger profits, as we get a larger audience.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Our media product would be in the big budget category films, so this means big mainstream distributors will have to distribute our film, rather than small independent companies. An appropriate distributor would be Warner bros. Because they have distributed films similar to ours, such as Unknown, Gangster Squad and many more which they have the similar genre and stories to our film, our genre is thriller and action, which Warner bros are expects of this particular genre so it is for them to distribute our film as they have experience with thriller and action movies.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Production companies are the company that will produce our film;
they may be directly responsible for fundraising for the production or may
accomplish this through a parent company or private investors. The production
company will do all the budgeting, the scripting, the film scheduling and they
will find the actors and directors, producers, editors etc. Our production
company for our film is Immortal Productions co. Our budgeting has came from our production
company which they have raised.
There are a lot of ways of distributing a film, and one popular
way is by posting their videos on YouTube, the website has over 1 billion
unique users that visits YouTube each month which makes it one of the most popular
website in the world, which we can post trailers or behind the scenes videos on
YouTube which can get our film more known. The main benefit of YouTube is that
it is completely free to post videos up, which also the film can make more
money from YouTube if the videos have other companies advertisements, this way
of distribution will make the movie more popular and known which will generate
a lot of movie. Another great way of
distribution is the social network websites because face book gets over 100s of
millions of users every month, which takes it to the top of the most popular social
network sites in the world, this makes it a very effective procedure of film
distribution. We would make our on face book page of our film which people can
like and get updates of the film. But there is a disadvantage, which is we
would have to pay for the advertising on face book, which means less profit.
Other ways of marketing and distributing our film is getting our actors to go
to events or TV programmes and getting them to talk about our film, which is a
good way of promotion.
Our film is mainly targeted at boys because more boys like action
thriller movies than girls, the age range would be 16-19, but we still would
target everyone so that we can make as much money possible. We would want our
film to be in mainstream cinemas so that it can gross more money, we have to
find the best ways of making the most money because our budget would be massive
so we have to make colossal amounts of money in order to make profit. There are
some films that produce there films and immediately put it on DVDs which is not
something we want to do, because releasing our movie at the mainstream cinemas
is very important because we would make vast amounts of money, and then after
we can release it on DVDs and love film.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
The character Raqeebul from our opening sequence is more or
like the other characters, as in the type of character they are and the movies
they star in. The other actors are Robert Di Niro (the godfather) and Al Pacino
(Scarface). The similarities of the character Raqeebul from our opening
sequence and the other two actors is that they all always have the same sense
of costume, they always are seen in smart clothes such as suits, ties this
suggests that they have wealth and power. In addition there appearance doesn't give
people a good first impression because clearly they all look like convicts and
has the villain look, they have a look which people would be afraid off, like
Al Pacino has a scar on his face which shows a violence remark, it makes the audience
think how did he get the scar, and gives them an idea of what kind of person he
is. Robert Di Niro old age and professional look makes him look like a businessman
within the drug trade, and Raqeebul has an serious look and has appearance of an
violent, unpredictable man, his the youngest out of all of the characters. But his
age can suggest that he might have family members that he works for that are at
a higher status, which are commonly related to a lot of gangster movies. They are all within gangster or crime movies
because of their appearances and other aspects and they are all seemed to use
violence if they don’t get want they want, and they all where part of a group
or gang of people working under them which shows they obtain high statuses. The
differences between these characters are that Robert Di Niro is negotiable, relaxed
out and can be friendly sometimes but still dangerous, and Raqeebul is always
angry and would torture to get answers, and Al Pacino would get ballistic and
would assassinate people he thinks does deserves to live. They all have distinguish
minds and personalities.

Evaluation Question 1
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The seventh frame shows who has dominance, this is shown by the low angle shot of the character is looking up towards the other character which shows he is superior and has dominance. Also, the high position character is coming towards the injured character which suggests to the audience something might happen to the lower position character, which creates suspense and tension to the audience.
The eighth frame, shows the character pulling out a Rolex watch, and dropping on to the table, and also they use a editing technique of an eye line match and also a close up shot of the watch, so it creates more tension to the audience because they might think who the watch belongs too, the victim or the man in power. Also, the Rolex watch can suggest that the man is rich which then relates to the power he has in the film.
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The first frame of the 9 frame analysis is a full black picture because this shows to the audience that the film is dark and dangerous film, the film has a genre of action/thriller, and the first frame builds suspense because the audience doesn’t know what is going to happen next because it is a pitch black frame which will bring expectations.
The second frame of the analysis shows the audience guns on a table, the camera shot used in this frame is a point of view shot, which shows the audience what the character is looking at, which gives an effect of that, the audience is in the characters shoes. The weapons suggests threat and danger to the audience, this also gives a hint of what the genre is to the audience and they will be sure that the film is going to be a dangerous film. Also, when they use a point of view shot, they will be able to tell that the character is dizzy because there has been a blur effect used, also there is an blinking effect used to the particular character, so that it suggests that the character is injured or unconscious, which then will suggest to the audience that it is a violent film. Also, the lighting of the scene might suggest that they are in a torture cell, because the lighting is directly on the character and the table of weapons which again suggests to the characters that it’s a violent film and they will expect more violence.
The third frame shows the production company of the film, so then the audience knows what company made the film; also the background of the film is full black which suggests some sort of danger and thrill, and also states that the film is dark. Also, the font is very sharp and straight forward, which suggests action and thrill, the font looks serious, which shows that the film is a serious movie, whereas a comedy or a love film would have a more soft and different font.
The forth frame is just simply shows the date of the film, which can be appealing to the audience because then they would think what the date is for, is it a release date of the film, or the date of when the film or story is set. Also, the font type again is a sharp and serious, which isn’t a font that would be used in a comedy film or a love film. The font for the film suggests that the film is serious film and dangerous. Also, it makes it stand out so then the audience will know straight away what it is, which then they would know that the date means something important.
The fifth frame shows the main characters, he was wearing smart trousers, smart shoes, a stripy white shirt and a dark blue tie. This will give an indication that the character is a high class person because of his particular costume, this conforms the stereotype of a high class man because of his dress, also the camera is in a point of view position so it which shows that the other character is looking at the dominate character, the audience will know that the smart dressed man is a dominate person in the film, because the point of view shot is in a low angle on the smart character, which shows that the other character is dominate and has power. Also the lighting in the frame is low key lighting, which suggests that they are in a dangerous place and a rough place, which could suggest that it is in a torture cell, also the darkness effect suggests that the film is dark and dangerous , it will also create suspense to the audience.
The sixth frame shows the character, who was in a point of view shot, which now they show the character, which will then shock the audience because he is bleeding, and also they would be expecting the character to be in that state, because as they know at the start he was in a point of view shot, which was sometimes blurry, which suggests that he was injured. Also, the blood suggests that the character is tortured and beaten, which suggests that the smartly dressed character is a violent man, now this will make the audience think what happened to the man and also they would want to know what happened and why he is so injured and in that state. After that, they have used a shot/shot reverse to film the conversation, also they have used a high angle shot over the shoulder of the smartly dressed man of the bleeding character to show that he is at a lower position, and shows that the smart man is in a high position.
The ninth frame, uses again a low angle shot, which shows that the character is more superior and has more dominance, also the low key lighting is used constantly the film so suggest that the film is has a dark story and is dangerous film.

MAIN TASK Film Classifications
The classification
of a movie is very vital because it represents the appropriateness of films,
such as age, the benefits of this is that it will make people know what kind of
stuff will be in the movie, and then they will know if its suitable for them to
watch, age wise. For example, in action or horror films there would be a lot of
violent scenes, and if children watch this it could influence them to be
violent, they could start to be violent towards other people which is inappropriate.
The following
picture is the U symbol which stands for universal, according to BBFC the U
symbol indicates that films that are suitable for people aged 4 and over. Films
that are rated as U would not have any violence, sexual content, drugs, strong language,
or any major problems of discrimination. However films and TV programmes that
are rated U can sometimes use very mild bad language, such as `hell and poop`
but it should be infrequent.
Additionally, television
programmes such as `in the night garden` or teletubbies` is obviously rated as
a U but they also state that, the programme is particularly suitable for
playschool children. In addition, the films
would not enclose any sexual content, but people kissing are acceptable and
people stating about love is acceptable too. Also those films can have mild
horror or very mild violence.
The following picture shows the` PG` symbol which’s stands
for parental guidance. Research has been done, and has said that people that
are aged 8 or over will not be affected. But it is the parent’s decision for
letting their child watch films with this rating. Generally, PG films are
targeted for children, yet there are some films that are for adults or parents
which are rated PG, according to BBFC, they have chosen this decision because
they believe that it will not affect children psychologically or emotionally. In
addition, BBFC does not allow films to have pessimistic content, because they don’t
want children to imitate negative stuff. For example, if a character jump of their
bunk bed, and then children could follow it, then BBFC will not allow the film
to be a PG or will not accept the film.
The following picture shows the 12A symbol which means
people who is 12 and over that is able to watch the film without their parents
or supervision. `A` stands for advisory, which means people that are younger
then 12 that are able to watch the film, if they are accompanied by an adult,
who must watch the film with them, and they should be over 18. 12A is a rating for movies at the cinemas
and, the symbol 12 on it own would be on DVD`s.
In 12A films there could be use of bad language but should be infrequent,
if the bad language is too aggressive then it may result the film moving up a category
to 15, also aggressive discriminatory language, for example homophobic or
racist terms, which be doubtful to pass a 12A. Also sexual content and violence can be stated
in the films but infrequently, if not it will pass as a 12A.
The following symbol is `15` which means no one age under 15
can watch `15` rated films because ratings at 15 can have, a lot of frequent strong
language , sexuality activity, strong verbal references to sex, nudity, infrequent
sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence, discriminatory
language or behaviour and drug abuse.
There could be a lot strong language used in `15` films and
the more stronger terms can be used to but to a extent, if the stronger language
is continued or gets aggressive then wont be accepted by BBFC.
The following picture shows a `18` symbol which means that, no
one under the age of 18 cannot buy or rent any DVDs that are rated `18` or watch
`18` rated movies at the cinema. No theme
is forbidden for 18 rated movies, but context that is more explicit images of
sexual content, will not be allowed in the `18` category, it will fall into the
`R18` category. `R18` which is different than `18` because they will have DVDs
that you cannot buy from high street shops or there wont be any movies with the
rating of `R18` within the cinemas, because
they are too sexually explicit.
Our film is going to have a rating of `15` because our film
has a lot of context within the `15` category such as violence and
weapons, our film did not really contain
frequent violence but contain quite a lot of blood which was on the characters face,
which suggest violence. Also, our shows weapons that are guns, which have a
real appearance because they are black and metal, if we put it in a lower category
which will not be suitable because people under the age of 15 could be influenced
in violence, as it has happened in America, where young people who were younger
than 15 have been out on mass murdering with guns which they will were influenced
so we should take the rating of our film
to consideration because its important that younger people don’t do negative stuff
by watching our film.
